“ Circular fashion can be defined as clothes, shoes or accessories that are designed, sourced, produced, and provided with the intention to be used and circulate responsibly and effectively in society for as long as possible in their most valuable form, and hereafter return safely to the biosphere when no longer of human use. ”
(Anna Brismar, Green Strategy, 2017)
Circular fashion is an industry that removes pollution and waste from production, you're asking how is that possible? Well it means that the making of the clothing or accessory is in a closed loop, the production of the item and the end of its life are equally as important.
When did it all start? It started in 2014 when fashion collided with the circular economy, the term “Circular fashion" was first heard in Sweden during a seminar. Since 2013 there has been a great shift in the way people shop fashion. Fast fashion is being more and more rejected by consumers especially after the Rana Plaza collapse in Bangladesh where 1,134 people died, and over 2,500 were injured. The building contained clothing factories that manufactured items for many well-known fashion brands… Since 2013 there has been a great shift in the way people shop fashion and are turning to more sustainable and ethical brands and second hand shopping.
Here are the key points of circular fashion:
1. Using less materials or recycled materials when producing items for increased recyclability
2. Removing non recyclable and pollution materials from the supply chain
3. Ensuring use and reuse of the item
4. Returning any unavoidable waste to nature safely
We are proud to say that our ACE bags are part of the circular fashion industry, working with ECONYL® and Healthy Seas makes it possible for ACE to be part of the regeneration process!
